McCall Primary School and Barber Middle School now open
McCall Primary School, located on the site of the old historic Acworth School (intersection of Academy Street and Dixie Avenue), opened for classes on Wednesday, August 10th. The school, which cost about $9 million dollars and was funded through a one cent SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) approved by Cobb County voters in 2003, serves only Pre-K, Kindergarden, and 1st Graders. 2nd-5th Graders will continue to be served by Acworth Intermediate School located on Cantrell Road (off McEver Road), where the Barber Middle School is located.
Barber Middle School also opened on Wednesday. It cost $19 million and was funded through the same SPLOST. Barber will relieve overcrowding at Awtrey Middle School.
Riverside Primary in Mableton also opened on Wednesday. Austell Primary's opening has been delayed due to construction delays.
